Bayamón, PR (November 16, 2011) - The Puerto Rico Islanders, in partnership with Bayamon FC and the city of Bayamon, visited the Virgilio Davila School part of the Soccer 101 program. The Soccer 101 program was established as a program to teach fundamental soccer skills and spread the development of soccer in schools across the Island.
“For the Puerto Rico Islanders it is our responsibility to spread the game of soccer and all the joy that it brings to Puerto Rico. The Islanders have been embraced by the Island and we just want to make sure that we give back. It is great teaching the kids the fundamentals as well as watching them learn. Who knows, maybe one of these children could be the next soccer star,” said Orlando Torres, Director of Community Outreach and Fan Development.
The Puerto Rico Islanders' front office as well as the Bayamon FC coaching staff were teaching the kids the fundamentals of soccer. The students participated in basic passing drills, kicking drills, and exercise designed help teach them how to work as a team. Soccer 101 will take place for the rest of the year in various schools across the Island.
