The Puerto Rico Islanders look to continue their six game unbeaten streak this Wednesday against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. The Islanders haven’t lost at home in the 2011 season boasting the longest home undefeated streak in the NASL. Kick-off is set for 8:05
"Fort Lauderdale is a tough opponent. We havent beat them this season and we understand its going to be a tough game. Hopefully we can continue our good form at home," said Head Coach Colin Clarke.
About the Islanders
The “Orange Troop” extended their road- undefeated streak to four last Sunday knocking off the NSC Minnesota Stars 1-0 in Blaine, Minnesota. During the streak, the Islanders have scored six goals, and have earned an important eight road points propelling them to second place in the NASL with 26 points. Puerto Rico currently is the only undefeated team at home in the league outscoring their opponents 12 – 7 in six contests, drawing only twice.
About Fort Lauderdale
The Strikers are currently on a six game game winless streak falling to their in-state rival, FC Tampa Bay, the Atlanta Silverbacks before drawing the Montreal Impact. Eduardo “Chacho” Coudet currently leads the team with sixgoals and four assists.
The Islanders have drawn twice and fallen once to the Strikers. The only the time these two teams squared off at “La Islandera”, the Islanders were able to rescue a point after giving up a goal in the 89th, later to respond with a quick strike from Gregory Richards to tie the game, and keep their home undefeated streak alive. The Islanders travel to El Salvador, to square off against Metapan in the knock stage of the CONCACAF Champions League. The fist league will be played in El Salvador. The second leg will be played at Juan Ramon Loubriel in the heart of Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The team that wins on aggregate will move to the group stages of the CONCACAF Champions League and will play for a berth in the Club World Championship.
