Yaikel Perez and Petter Villegas added to the Islanders

The Cuban Yaikel Pérez and the Ecuatorian-Puerto Rican Petter Villegas, previously of the Club Atlético River Plate Puerto Rico, have joined the Puerto Rico Islanders for the 2011 season.

Villegas played with the Islanders from 2005 to 2009, scoring 15 goals for the Tropa Naranja and serving as co-captain with Noah Delgado in 2008. In addition, he joined the Puerto Rico national team in 2008 – scoring 2 goals in 3 matches.

Pérez, on the other hand, had his debut with the Islanders this past Wednesday June 1st against NSC Minnesota Stars in Bayamón. Even though he did not score a goal, he demonstrated a great offensive mentality – pressuring the Minnesota defense during his 9 minutes of play.

“They are two very good additions to the team. Petter brings a lot of experience and knows the level of play in our league and CONCACAF. Yaikel is a young striker who is aggressive and will help us with our goals of winning the NASL championship as well as the CONCACAF Champions League”, said Islanders president Andrés Guillemard-Noble.

The recently crowned two-time champions of the Caribbean will travel to Fort Lauderdale to play against the Strikers on Saturday, June 4th. They will return home for their match against the Montreal Impact on Sunday June 12th at 6:05 pm in the Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón. Individual tickets can be purchased through www.ticketpop.com or you have the option of purchasing the new FLEX Pass by calling 787-520-9684 – 12 tickets for $100, which you can use for any home NASL match, including the playoffs.
