The Puerto Rico Islanders returned home to prepare for the second leg of the Quarterfinal Round of the CFU Clubs Champions Cup to be played on Saturday, May 14th at 4:30pm in Bayamón, after drawing 1-1 to Walking Boyz Co. (WBC) in Paramaribo, Suriname this past Saturday.
Islanders forward Gregory Richardson took a hard challenge to his ankle in the first half and was taken to the hospital. Fortunately, it was not a serious injury and Richardson will be back on the field sooner than expected.
WBC took the lead in the 48th minute surprising the Puerto Rico Islanders defense in a counterattack. A couple of minutes before the final whistle, defender Jamie Cunninham scored his first professional goal for the 1-1 final score.
"It felt really good to be able to help my team. We didn't start off well on the first half, but got ourselves together and were able to get the tie at the end", said Cunningham.
"We didn't take advantages of the scoring opportunities we had on the first half and they got us on a counterattack. Given the journey, travel, and the conditions, we are happy with the tie. We will take the result and win the series at home with the support of our fans on May 14th", said Islanders' head coach Colin Clarke.
The 'Tropa Naranja' will face Walking Boyz Co. this next Saturday, May 14th at 4:30pm at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium.
