Twelve Players Called for International Duty

The Puerto Rico Islanders FC announced today that ten of its players have been called up to join Puerto Rico’s National Team for the Second Round of the Caribbean Cup Championship, which is the Caribbean Qualifiers for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Puerto Rico was seeded in Group 7 and will square off against Martinique, Guadeloupe and Dominican Republic. Matches will be held from October 21st-28th in Guadeloupe.  Meanwhile, two other Islanders were called up to represent Guyana in its World Cup Qualifying Campaign towards Brazil 2014.

The players who have been called up for national duty are Richard Martínez, Anthony Vázquez, Joshua Hansen, Andrés Pérez, Hector "Pito" Ramos , Joseph “Jackie” Marrero, Tyler Wilson, Alexis Rivera , Noah Delgado and Marco Vélez. The Puerto Rico National team, along with these same players, qualified to the second round of the Caribbean Cup last September in Haiti.  

Also called up to international duty is the captain of the Guyana National team, Christppher Nurse, and midfielder Gregory Richardson will represent Guyana in its upcoming match against Mexico on October 12th in search of a ticket to Brazil 2014.

Joseph “Jackie” Marrero was also called up to represent Puerto Rico in the upcoming Under 20 World Cup qualifying group towards the Under-20  World Cup in Turkey. Puerto Rico is part of Group A with Trinidad and Tobego, Curacao, and Hati. Group A will be played in Kingston Jamaica from November 3rd to the 10th.
