Hola a todos!!
It has been one of those weeks where the whole squad has not really been able to relax and enjoy the result we got against the San Antonio Scorpions. That is because, for a lot of the squad, their focus has been on the upcoming fixture against Spain, which will be a fantastic occasion for Puerto Rican soccer.
I have to say, the atmosphere last Sunday was electric. I know we had well over 200 Islanders fans in the crowd and credit to them; they were passionate from start to finish. Watching them, I could tell they loved every minute of seeing their team win and I think we can all agree. There is clearly no love lost between both sets of supporters.
This week there are 15 players total involved with the national team of which 10 currently play for the Islanders. It's great to see the five other returning players that have previously worn the Islanders colors, and it goes to show just how much of an impact this club has had on soccer in Puerto Rico.
It is only eight days until we return home to the Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel and I know everybody is extremely excited. I must have visited the stadium nearly every week for the last two months and watching the transformation unfold during that time has been fantastic. So much, I decided to take the players to the stadium this week for a tour so that they were ready for the game on August 15th. I wanted them mentally prepared, so that they aren’t walking into the unknown. From the reactions I saw, they all seemed suitably impressed.
I explained to the players that we all needed to have a vision for the future of this Club and that they needed to use their imagination for what we could potentially achieve this season. For me, that vision is us winning the Championship in just under 2 months time, and I truly believe we can do that.
Time really has flown by this year and the season is almost finished. With that in mind, let’s make these last 4 home games really count. I am inviting you all to come and support your team, have fun and let’s finish this season with a smile on our faces.
Take care,
Whitt
