Bayamón, Puerto Rico (June 16, 2012) - The Puerto Rico Islanders lost their undefeated home streak tonight when they fell 0 - 2 to the San Antonio Scorpions. With this result the Islanders, who held the first position since season start, are now in second place in league standings with 20 points.
"I hope this hurts the players as much as it hurt me. We didn't deserve it; we had a chance when we were 1-0 down. We need to react and focus for the upcoming CFU Championship," said Head Coach Adrian Whitbread.
In the 5th minute, the Puerto Rico Islanders started their offense early in the match when a shot by Jonathan Faña reached the box, but Scorpions' goalkeeper deflected it above the crossbar. David Foley took the ensuing corner kick, but his shot went wide.
The Scorpions' first goal arrived in the 39th minute, when Richard Martin did not manage to hold on to the ball after stopping the intial shot and his rebound reached Bayona, who put the ball in the back of the net.
In the 42nd. minute Walter Ramírez received his second yellow card of the match, that left the San Antonio Scorpions with 10 players. This did not keep San Antonio from increasing their advantage during the second half. In the 70th minute, Pablo Campos gave the Scorpions their second goal.
The Puerto Rico Islanders had a chance to score in the 85th minute with a penalty kick by Foley, but his shot went off the post. Match ended Puerto Rico Islanders 0 - 2 San Antonio Scorpions.
The Puerto Rico Islanders continue their NASL action this Saturday June 23rd when they visit the Atlanta Silverbacks at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
