Well, another week goes by and we are a third of the season through. Its been a great start and I want to say we couldn’t have done it without you, the fans. Traveling around the league, I can say with a doubt, Islanders fans have this incredible passion that always gives the boys a lift.
We all took a big knock last week with the news of JamieCunningham being done for the season. One of the great things about this group is how together they are and they have been fully supportive of Jamie. Like I mentioned before, the boys will dedicate the season to Jamie.
The boys this week have been working in our summer clinics and truly are role models for any child wishing to learn how to become r player. Not only are they very grounded they are all willing to go that extra yard, not just be a successful team but to go out into the community no questions asked. You could tell during the clinics, that the player might have been having more fun that the campers. On the last day, the boys painted their faces and handed out certificates. And I will say this much from watching the clinics, the future of Puerto Rico soccer looks bright.
Speaking of community work, Nick Addlery’s hunger wall has been working overtime as well as the players going to the shelter and spending time with them.
Also last weekend those of you who were at the game would have seen a special guest on the field in Cristian Lopez.Cristian was involved in a car accident at the age of 4 and suffered multiple injuries and I wanted him to have the experience a game day. He spent time in the locker room, warmed up with the guys and was on the bench for the entire game game. Who knows? Maybe one he will take my job as skipper of the Islanders. He is truly an inspiration to everyone. I know he inspired a lot of guys on the team.
I am pleased to say thet the injuries weve had are slowly coming back into first team selection and just in time for next week’s Defense of our CFU Clubs Champions Cup. Remeber we are trying to make history in being the first team to be CFU Champions three times in a row.
This weekend we will be missing Andres Perez( knee) Stephen DeRoux(ankle) and obviously Jamie Cunningham
So onto this Saturday’s game versus the San Antonio Scorpions. This is obviously the biggest game of the season in a top of the table clash.Certainly no motivation needed for this one as we all know what is at stake.
Come out! Come out wherever you are. Your support is invaluable and never taken for granted!
WE ARE ALL ONE
