Islanders to play Charleston Battery in pre-season scrimmage
Posted on Thu, Mar 31, 2011

The Puerto Rico Islanders leave this Sunday to Charleston, South Carolina to play the USL champions Charleston Battery on April 5th at 5:30pm at Blackbaud Stadium, in their last pre-season scrimmage before the 2011 NASL Season.

“This game will let us continue to evaluate our lineup and make the necessary adjustments for our NASL season opener on the 9th in Raleigh (NC)” said Islanders Head Coach Colin Clarke.

After the friendly, the Islanders will travel to North Carolina to participate in the promotion and inaugural events of the 2011 NASL Season before their game vs. Carolina Railhawks on April 9th.  The Islanders faced the Railhawks in 2010 in the USSF D-2 Championship Series and are looking to demonstrate to be the same winning team that earned two championships in 2010.

“This first game in North Carolina is very important. We are 2010’s Champions and everybody will want to beat us, especially the Railhawks after last year’s championship series results.  We come ready to have a strong start this season and will go for the win on April 9th”, said Islanders midfielder Noah Delgado.

On April 23rd the Islanders will begin their CFU Club Champions Cup’s Second Round facing Walking Boyz, Co. of Surinam at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón.  And later, on April 26th the orange troops have their NASL home opener against NSC Minnesota Stars.
