Ten Islanders Called up For National Team Duty

The Puerto Rico Islanders announced today that ten of its players have been called up for National Team duty.

“Any time a player gets called up for their country, that's fantastic news.  It is good for the player and it is good for the Club. It  is an honor for any player to represent their country and is a reflection of the kind of players we have on the football team.  Even though we are left short handed, we have talked numerous times with the Puerto Rico Football Federation and they have been very flexible with us” said Head Coach Adrian Whitbread.

Nine players have been called to the Puerto Rico National Team for their upcoming matches with Nicaragua on Friday, June 1st and Sunday, June 3rd.  Richard Martínez, Anthony Vázquez, Joshua Hansen, Andrés Pérez and Hector "Pito" Ramos will be available for both matches. While Joseph “Jackie” Marrero, Tyler Wilson, Alexis Rivera and Noah Delgado will join the Puerto Rico National Team after the Islanders square off against the Carolina RailHawks on Saturday, June 2nd at WakeMed Soccer Soccer Park.   The list also includes four players that have played for the Islanders, including LA Galaxy Goalkeeper William Gaudette, who will make his first appearance for the Puerto Rico National Team.

Gregory Richardson was called up to represent the Guyana National team to participate in the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Costa Rica..
