The Puerto Rico Islanders defeated George Town SC 8-0 Friday night in the Cayman Islands to punch their ticket to the final round of the CFU Club Champions Cup. The Islanders return to action when they square off against the Carolina RailHawks this Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m.
“We finished top of the league; it was a good result. We went about our business in a professional manner. I was a little disappointed with all the chances we created and should have scored from. It was another reminder to my whole squad that when you have an opportunity to put one in the back of the net, it is a good habit,” said Head Coach Adrian Whitbread.
Hector “Pito” Ramos scored the first goal of the match with a clinical finish inside the eighteen. The Puerto Rico International scored another goal before being subbed out at the end of the first half.
Johnathan Faña scored three goals for the Islanders, to help them finish first in their group.
Forward Gregory Richardson contributed one goal and two assists, while the other two goals were deflected in for George Town SC own goals.
