Islanders Start Campaign to Collect Basic Necessity Items for Mistreated Children
Posted on Thu, May 17, 2012

In solidarity with mistreated children and as part of the Soccer for You program, Puerto Rico Islanders’ forward Nicholas Addlery heads a campaign to collect basic necessity items for kids from Fundación Hogar Niñito Jesús.

“It is important to make an effort to help others. Especially in these hard times we are living. We have to learn how to give and share what we have with the less fortunate. No human being should be mistreated.  But the fact that this happens to children, who are so helpless, is unacceptable. Not to mention the impact it has on the rest of their lives and on society in general. This is why we join the Foundation’s effort to take care of these kids, donating basic articles they need for their everyday living” said Addlery, who is also co-captain of the Puerto Rico Islanders.

The Fundación Hogar Niñito Jesús is a shelter for children ages 0 to seven years old. For nearly two decades they have provided protection services to minors removed from their homes by the Department of the Family. They provide protection, medical and dental care, pre-school education, psychological and psychiatric services, and work on their social development.  At present, the shelter is full to capacity, unable to provide refuge to any more children.

“We picked a big wall in our office and we want to fill it with basic necessity items for these children. I want to call out to our fans and the rest of the community to join this initiative to help these kids, who are the future of the country.” added Addlery.

The foundation has requested individual lunches, canned fruits and juices and milk powder. They need bath towels, forehead thermometers, bibs, nursing gloves, lotion, baby wipes and crib sheets. Among the detergents they have requested are: liquid and aerosol disinfectant, dishwashing detergent, oven cleaning aerosol, fabric softener, etc. The children are also in need of clothes, new underwear and shoes.

Your donation is welcome at the Puerto Rico Islanders office, located on the second floor of the Miguel J. Frau Municipal Gym, on the premises of the Onofre Carballeira Sports Complex in Bayamón. Donation checks will be accepted at the following address: Fundación Hogar Niñito Jesús / PO Box 6413 / Bayamón, PR 00960-6413. For more information, please contact 787.413.6905. Items will be received until July 20th. The Puerto Rico Islanders will dedicate their July 28th match against the Minnesota Stars FC to the children from the Foundation. We invite everyone to be part of this event at 7:30pm in the Bayamón Soccer Complex.
