Islanders Look to Continue their undefeated streak

(April 24, 2012, Bayamon, Puerto Rico) The Puerto Rico Islanders travel to Lockhart Stadium to square off against the the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The Islanders are in first place in the league with ten points. Kickoff is set for 7:30PM.

“We have a lot of momentum going from our undefeated streak and a lot of teams are going to want to break that. We have to be our  guard,  its going to be a tough challenge. They are a well coached team and they are going to look to maintain their undefeated streak, its going to be a tough game,” said Head Coach Adrian Whitbread.

About the Islanders

The “Tropa Naranja” has won three out of the four last games to start the NASL season. They have outscored their opponents 8-1 in that span with six of those goals coming off assist. The Islanders also lead the league in Goals against Average with 0.25 per game, which helped lead goalkeeper Richard Martin to his second straight Defensive Player of the week award. Three Islanders forwards currently round out the top five goal scorers in the league. Jonathan Fana is tied for first place in assist with Fort Lauderdale's Walter Restrepo and Edmonton's Yashir Pinto with two assists.

About the Fort Lauderdale Strikers

The Strikers are coming off a draw against the San Antonio Scorpions. Fort Lauderdale also counts on two time NASL offensive player of the week, Andy Herron. Herron is currently tied with Puerto Rico's Nicholas Addlery  and Atlanta’s Reinaldo Navia for top goal scorer of the NASL. The Strikers will be without captain Toni Stahl and forward Abe Thompson after being issued red cards during their last match against the Scorpions. Head Coach Daryl Shore will also be serving a one game suspension.
