Bayamón, Puerto Rico (April 18, 2012) – The Puerto Rico Islanders won the “NASL Classic” tonight when they defeated the Carolina RailHawks 3 – 1 in their fourth game of the North American Soccer League 2012 season. With this victory, the Islanders have extended their home undefeated Regular Season streak, which they hold since the beginning of last 2011 season.
“We want to win desperately, it can be against Colin or not. I’m just happy to get another win for our amazing fans. Now we focus our attention on our next game this Wednesday against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.” said Head Coach Adrian Whitbread.
Action started early in the match, when Islanders Jamie Cunningham took a head shot on goal after a corner kick that was saved by Ray Burse, Carolina RailHawks’ goalkeeper.
In the 27th minute, David Foley took a penalty shot and scored the first goal of the game , giving the Puerto Rico Islanders an early lead. Four minutes later Faña stole the ball and completed a pass to Richard Martinez, who made the second goal of the match.
After several attempts to reach the box from the RailHawks, the first half ended Puerto Rico Islanders 2‑0 Carolina RailHawks.
During the second half, the Carolina RailHawks received their first goal of the season in the 48th minute, when Richard Martin couldn’t clear the ball from the box and Jay Needham made the goal for the opposing team.
The Puerto Rico Islanders increased their lead in the 53rd minute when Nicholas Addlery received a pass from Faña and gave the Islanders their third goal.
In the last minutes, the Carolina RailHawks tried to take advantage of a corner kick to make a goal, but they didn’t manage to take a shot. The final whistle ended the match Puerto Rico Islanders 3 – 1 Carolina RailHawks.
With this win, the Puerto Rico Islanders are still undefeated during this 2012 season. Also, they maintain a solid first position on league standings with 10 points.
