The Puerto Rico Islanders won their second consecutive game of the North American Soccer League (NASL) today when they defeated the San Antonio Scorpions 4-0 at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. With this victory, the PR Islanders take the first place  with six points. The Puerto Rico Islanders return to the Bayamon Soccer Complex this upcoming Wednesday, April 18th when they face FC Edmonton.

“The boys were fantastic this evening. Every single player did their part and the support from the Islander fans here and in Puerto Rico has been awesome. Preparation for next match against FC Edmonton starts now.” said Head Coach Adrian Whitbread.

Action started early in the match in the 8th minute, when Jonathan Faña received a pass from David Foley and scored the first goal of the match.

In the 11th minute the Scorpions were awarded a penalty kick. Pablo Campos took the PK, and the shot exploded off the crossbar, keeping the Scorpions off the scoreboard.

In the 20 minute mark, captain Noah Delgado crossed a ball into the box that David Foley  headed on frame, the ball trickled past the goalkeeper giving the Islanders a 2-0 advantage.

Seven minutes later, Blake Wagner penetrated the Islander’s defense and took a shot on goal that forced an acrobatic save by goalkeeper Richard Martin.

At the end of the first half San Antonio forwards Campos and Denissen reached the box with great combination play, but they didn’t get a chance to take a shot to goal. The first half ended PRIslanders 2 – San Antonio Scorpions 0.

During the second half, the Islanders continued to show why the backline has not allowed a goal so far in the season.

Later on in the second half, Addlery managed to elude two Scorpion defenses and score, increasing the lead to three.

San Antonio forward Pablo Campos once again took a penalty kick  that was denied with a great save by  Martin.

The PR Islanders closed the deal when Jonathan Faña scored his second goal of the match after a long pass from De Roux, sealing the victory 4-0 over the Scorpions.
