(April 3, 2012) The Puerto Rico Islanders announced the first team for the 2012 season of the North American Soccer League (NASL) and the Caribbean Football Union's (CFU) Club Champions Cup.
During the press conference, Head Coach Adrian Whitbread was the first to speak and stressed that "we are all one," demonstrating support for the players, front office and fans. He also mentioned his gratefulness to the Board of Directors for choosing him as the new manager for the Puerto Rico Islanders.
Furthermore, Jorge A. Pierluisi, member of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Islanders, showed his appreciation towards the City of Bayamón for addressing the situation of the temporary unavailability of the Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium until the end of July due to the remodeling process. He is confident that the fans will continue to support the team.
Meanwhile, the Islanders presented most of the players that will be part of the new 2012 season. However, there are still players to be announced who are currently waiting for NASL and USSF approval. At the same time, the Islanders will play at the Bayamon Soccer Complex (BSC) until renovations of the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium are completed. Temporary bleachers were added at BSC to increase the seating capacity for the public to enjoy.
This Saturday, April 7, the new 2012 season of the NASL will take place when the Islanders host the Tampa Bay Rowdies at 7:30pm. Admission to the match is FREE OF CHARGE as a gift from the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Islanders and the Mayor of Bayamon, Hon. Ramón Luis Rivera Cruz. The City of Bayamon established a system of free transportation between the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium multi-story parking lot and the Bayamon Soccer Complex starting at 6:00 p.m. We encourage our fans to use the Tren Urbano and arrive early at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium for transportation to the Bayamon Soccer Complex. VIP Season Pass ticket holders will have parking available and a reserved seating area at the BSC.
