Posted on Tue, Mar 20, 2012

The Puerto Rico Islanders won their second consecutive pre-season match beating Caribbean University by a final score of 5-1. The Islanders will play their next pre-season match against the Universidad Turabo this Wednesday, March 21st, at the Bayamon Soccer Complex. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m.

“We won the match, but I'm still not happy. Not happy with the goal that we conceded and, even though we scored five goals, I am not happy with some of the opportunities that we missed.  I told the team that the season starts today. We have a game on Wednesday and some games for this weekend, and numerous sessions in-between where we will be working on a lot of things,” said Head Coach Adrian Whitbread.

The Islanders quickly opened the scoreboard when Jarad van Schaik executed a free kick towards the far post that was neatly headed down into the goal by an Islanders' defender.

Caribbean University was able to tie the game when Orvin Ortiz  was taken down inside the box. Pablo Hernández  blasted a penalty kick past Cody Larendi moments before the end of the half, tying the game at one.

Jonathan Faña was subbed in the second half and quickly  made his presence felt. He scored three goals in 25 minutes giving the Islanders a 4-1 lead. With these three goals, Faña is now the leading goal scorer of the pre-season.

The Islanders added another goal towards the end of the second half.

The Islanders are now (2-0-1) during its preseason action, outscoring its opponents 9-3.
