Bayamón, Puerto Rico – The Puerto Rico Islanders have signed midfielder Yaw Danso, who most recently playing for the St. Louis Lions, from the USL Premier Development League. They also announced the return of goalkeeper Cody Laurendi. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“I feel like I have not only added two good players but two good people. I saw Yaw over the offseason and like his athleticism but most importantly I liked his character. Cody returns to the Island and I have told him that he will have an opportunity to fight for the number one goalkeeping spot with another keeper we having coming in soon. Not only does Cody work hard but he does a tremendous job off the field with Soccer 101 and other community efforts, “ said Head coach Adrian Whitbread.
Yaw Danso played college football with Principia College from 2006 to 2010. During this time, the midfielder got selected Second Team All-Conference in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference twice (2006, 2008), and First Team All-Conference in 2007, same year he won the All-Midwest Award. He finished his college career with 28 goals and 27 assists, which made him second all-time in assists and fourth in scoring. Yaw Danso was acquired by the USL Premier Development League team St. Louis Lions in 2010.
Goalkeeper Cody Laurendi played club soccer for Space Coast United, Satellite Beach SC and Orlando FC. He went on to play college soccer at South Georgia College, where he was named to the Georgia Junior College All Tournament Team. In 2008, Cody Laurendi attended the Heidelberg Academic and Soccer Academy (HASA) in Liege, Belgium, where he played for the fourth division R.R.F.C. Montegnée. He returned to Florida to try out for the PR Islanders in March 2010. He was signed to the team after a successful tryout.
