Bayamón, Puerto Rico (December 27, 2011) –The Puerto Rico Islanders have exercised their options to two players from last season, the team announced today. Defender Jaime Cunningham and midfielder Tyler Wilson will return for the 2012 season. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed per Club policy.
“The club continues to add to an exciting young nucleus. We already have two great pieces in Jonathan Faña and Nicolas Addlery. Now we add an exciting young talent like Tyler Wilson coming back and an anchor in our defense in Jaime Cunningham to the group. The 2012 season looks very bright,” said Head Coach Adrian Whitbread.
Midfielder Tyler Wilson, debuted with the Puerto Rico Islanders and the Puerto Rico National team in 2011. Wilson played his college soccer at Mt. San Antonio College and the University of California Riverside. At Mt. San Antonio College Wilson was named All-League Second-Team.
Defender Jamie Cunningham also debuted for the “Tropa Naranja” in the 2011 season. He started 21 games including CONCACAF Champions League and CFU. Cunningham played four years at Fort Lewis College. He was second team Daktronics All-American twice and also won the Don Whalen Award as Fort Lewis' outstanding male athlete. He finished his career with 17 goals and 5 assists in 83 games.
