The Puerto Rico Islanders beat the Montreal Impact 2-1 at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in the “Yellow Night” presented by Medalla Light and la Red ATH®. In a night full of fun and goals, the Tropa Naranja, wearing a yellow jersey, beat their ex-goalkeeper Bill Gaudette’s team.
On the 24th minute, the Islanders took the lead when Aaron Pitchkolan scored on an assist by Logan Emory in a corner kick. The Impact tied the game on the 34th minute with a goal by midfielder Amir Lowery.
However, their celebration was cut short by Islanders’ captain Nicholas Addlery’s goal on the 38th minute—a header off a cross sent by Kevon Villaroel.
A few minutes before halftime, Impact’s goalkeeper Bill Gaudette left the game with an ankle injury and Even Bush took his place.
Both teams came in on the second half eager to score. The Impact looking to tie the game without success and the Tropa Naranja centimeters away from scoring in various occasions. Yaikel Pérez, Petter Villegas, and Jarad Van Schaik came in with fresh legs and offensive power for the Islanders.
The Puerto Rico Islanders were able to keep the lead 2-1 and earn the 3 points joining the Fort Lauderdale Strikers once again in fourth place of the NASL standings.
The Tropa Naranja will travel to Canada to face FC Edmonton this next Wednesday July 15. Then they come back to Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium where they play Atlanta Silverbacks on Sunday, June 19th at 6:05pm to celebrate Fathers’s Day.
